Synchronica

Synchronica is a rhythm-based arcade video game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was officially released in Japan in June 2015 and later distributed to select international markets, primarily within Asia.

Gameplay

The game utilizes a cabinet equipped with a large high-definition touchscreen interface. Players interact with musical tracks by performing specific gestures—such as tapping, holding, or flicking—on the screen in response to visual markers that appear in time with the rhythm.

A defining characteristic of Synchronica is its focus on "multi-synchro" gameplay. While the game can be played individually, the hardware is designed to link two cabinets together. In this mode, two players work together or compete on the same track, with the game mechanics emphasizing the degree of synchronization between their movements and timing.

Music and Content

The game's repertoire includes a variety of musical genres, ranging from J-pop and anime themes to Vocaloid tracks and original electronic compositions. As a Bandai Namco property, Synchronica features "crossover" content from other company franchises, incorporating music and visual elements from series such as The Idolmaster, Tekken, and Ridge Racer.

Technical History

Synchronica utilized the "BanaPassport" system, a smart card service that allowed players to save their progress, unlock new songs, and track their rankings online. In 2019, Bandai Namco announced the termination of online services for the title. Following the shutdown, remaining arcade units typically operate in an "offline" mode, which retains core gameplay functionality but lacks network-dependent features and updates.
