Sweet Valley is an unincorporated community and census‑designated place (CDP) located within Penn Township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. It lies in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 45 mi (72 km) west of Philadelphia and 30 mi (48 km) northwest of Wilmington, Delaware.
Geography
The CDP occupies a total area of about 2.3 square miles (5.9 km²), all of which is land. Sweet Valley is situated in the Brandywine Creek watershed, with French Creek flowing to its south. The community is bordered on the north by the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) and is traversed by Pennsylvania Route 345.
Demographics
According to the 2020 United States Census, Sweet Valley had a population of 2,804 residents. The population density was approximately 1,220 persons per square mile (470 persons per km²). The racial composition was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Asian, and Hispanic or Latino residents. Household and family structures reflected a suburban character, with a majority of married‑couple households and an average household size of roughly 2.7 persons.
History
Sweet Valley developed in the 19th century as a rural agricultural settlement within Chester County. The community’s name is believed to derive from the fertile “sweet” soils of the valley surrounding French Creek. Over time, the area transitioned from primarily farmland to a residential suburb, especially during the post‑World War II housing boom, as expansions of the Philadelphia metropolitan area reached Chester County.

Public education for Sweet Valley residents is provided by the Phoenixville Area School District. The community is served by Sweet Valley Elementary School, Sweet Valley Middle School, and Phoenixville Area High School.
