Swayam

Swayam is an Indian Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform. The acronym stands for "Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds." It is an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, designed to provide affordable and accessible quality education to students across the country.

Purpose and Objectives:

Swayam aims to bridge the digital divide and democratize access to higher education by offering a variety of online courses covering diverse subjects and levels, from school education to postgraduate studies. Its primary objectives include:

  • Accessibility: Providing high-quality educational resources to anyone with an internet connection, regardless of their location or socio-economic background.
  • Equity: Reducing inequalities in educational opportunities by offering courses at minimal or no cost.

Structure and Functionality:

The Swayam platform operates on four quadrants:

  • Video Lecture: High-quality video lectures delivered by experienced faculty.
  • Specially Prepared Reading Material that can be Downloaded/Printed: Comprehensive and downloadable study materials, including e-books and articles.
  • Self-Assessment Tests through Tests and Quizzes: Regular assessments and quizzes to help students evaluate their understanding of the course material.
  • Online Discussion Forum for Clearing the Doubts: Interactive discussion forums where students can interact with faculty and peers to clarify doubts and engage in discussions.

Various national coordinators are responsible for developing and delivering courses on Swayam, including:
