Svetlana Adyrkhaeva (Russian: Светлана Адырхаева; 1938 – 15 June 2021) was a Soviet and Russian ballet dancer and teacher, recognized for her work with the Bolshoi Ballet and later as an educator at prominent Russian dance institutions.
Early life and training
Adyrkhaeva was born in 1938 in the Soviet Union. She studied ballet at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (the Vaganova Academy), where she received classical training under the mentorship of leading Soviet ballet instructors.
Professional career
Upon graduating, Adyrkhaeva joined the Bolshoi Ballet, one of the world’s leading ballet companies. During her tenure as a soloist, she performed principal roles in classic ballets such as:
- Odette/Odile in Swan Lake
- Giselle in Giselle
- Kitri in Don Quixote
- Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty
She was noted for her technical precision, expressive artistry, and contributions to the Soviet ballet repertoire.
Teaching and later work
After retiring from active performance, Adyrkhaeva transitioned to pedagogy. She held teaching positions at:
