The name "Suzanne Alexander" refers to at least two distinct individuals: a Canadian actress and model active in the mid-20th century, and a contemporary American television and radio broadcaster.
Suzanne Alexander (1931–1975) – Actress and Model
Suzanne Alexander was born Gwendolyn (or Gwendolynne) Ann White on September 8, 1931, in Toronto, Canada. She was the daughter of William James "Will" White, a conductor and bandleader, and Gwendolyn Haynes, an actress. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and was crowned Miss Studio City and Miss San Fernando Valley in 1949.
Her acting career began on stage in 1951 with a starring role in Detective Story at the Ivar Theater. She appeared in several films, most notably Cat-Women of the Moon (1953) as Beta and Down Three Dark Streets (1954) as Brenda Ralles. She also appeared in television series such as Crossroads, Public Defender, and Racket Squad, and co-hosted Queen for a Day and Juke Box Jury.
In 1955, Mike Todd considered her for the role of Princess Aouda in Around the World in 80 Days; she and Marla English were selected as finalists, but the role ultimately went to Shirley MacLaine. Alexander's screen test footage was donated to the Library of Congress by Elizabeth Taylor.
She was briefly married to Rexford Colbert, manager of the MGM Commissary, from 1963 to 1966. Her final onscreen roles were on episodes of This is the Life and Mod Squad. She died on September 21, 1975, at age 44, in San Francisco, California, and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
Suzanne Alexander (Contemporary) – Broadcast Veteran
A separate individual, Suzanne Alexander is a broadcast veteran who helped launch the Great American Country (GAC) Network in 2003 as one of its first video jocks. She remained with the network until its sale to the Discovery Network in 2019. She hosted shows including The Playlist and the ACM Red Carpet Live broadcast, and has interviewed numerous country music and entertainment figures such as Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Lionel Richie, Jeff Bridges, and Kevin Costner.
She has also worked as a sports reporter for CBS Sports Network covering the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), providing sideline interviews and hosting the WNFR Pre Show from Las Vegas. In radio, she hosted the syndicated GAC Nights and has served as a writer, guest host, and in-show news contributor for American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks. She has also performed voice-over work for brands including Kidde, Home Depot, Hello Fresh, and Tractor Supply Co., and is active as a live stage host for charitable organizations.
