Susan Swain (born 1954) is an American journalist and television executive known for her long‑term association with C‑SPAN, the cable‑satellite public affairs network. She has served as co‑president and co‑chief executive officer of C‑SPAN alongside its founder, Brian Lamb, since 2005.
Early life and education
Swain was raised in Detroit, Michigan. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Michigan State University, where she was a member of the student newspaper, The State News. She later obtained a Master of Arts in political science from Georgetown University.
Career
Swain began her professional career as a reporter and producer for local television stations, including WTVN in Columbus, Ohio, and later worked for the National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate in Washington, D.C. In 1982, she joined C‑SPAN as a producer and on‑air host. Over the ensuing decades, Swain anchored and moderated numerous programs, most notably the nightly news program C‑SPAN News and the public affairs series Washington Journal. She has conducted interviews with a wide range of political figures, policymakers, and public officials.
