Sumie Sakai (voice actress)

Sumie Sakai (Japanese: 坂井 寿美江, Hepburn: Sakai Sumie; April 6, 1945 – October 30, 2024) was a Japanese actress and voice actress affiliated with Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society (Haikyou). Her real name was Sumie Fujino (藤野 寿美江, Fujino Sumie). She was formerly credited under the name Sumie Sakai (坂井 すみ江, Sakai Sumie).

Born in Tokyo, Empire of Japan, she stood 152 cm tall and was active in the entertainment industry from 1963 until her death.

Sakai is best known for her voice roles in anime and tokusatsu series. Her notable anime roles include Midori Hayakawa in Attack No. 1 (1969), Miki Makimura in Devilman (1972), Yumi Arakawa in Chōdenji Robo Combattler V (1976), and Princess Yukiko in Dororon Enma-kun (1973), a role she reprised in the 2011 sequel Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera.

In the tokusatsu genre, she voiced numerous monster characters in the Super Sentai series, including Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, Battle Fever J (1979–1980), Denshi Sentai Denziman (1980–1981), and Dengeki Sentai Changeman (1985). She also contributed voice work to Android Kikaider and Barom One.

Sakai passed away on October 30, 2024, at the age of 79.
