Sugar City, Idaho

Sugar City is a city in Madison County, Idaho, United States. It is situated on the north side of the Portneuf River, approximately five miles (8 km) southeast of Rexburg and part of the Idaho Falls metropolitan area.

History
The community originated in the late 19th century as a settlement supporting the regional sugar‑beet industry. The city was incorporated in 1912. Its name derives from the sugar‑beet processing activities that were a primary economic driver at the time of settlement.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, Sugar City has a total area of 0.68 square miles (1.76 km²), all of which is land. The city lies at an elevation of roughly 4,800 feet (1,460 m) above sea level.

Sugar City experiences a semi‑arid climate (Köppen BSk), characterized by cold, dry winters and warm, relatively dry summers.
