The village lies on the Buffalo River, a trout‑bearing stream that flows west of Osseo to the Mississippi River. Crystal Lake, a reservoir on the Buffalo River within the village limits, supports populations of trout, panfish, largemouth bass, and northern pike.
History
The settlement was originally named Tilden after the 19th‑century politician Samuel J. Tilden. On January 1, 1890, the name was changed to Strum in honor of Louis Strum of Eau Claire, a friend of Congressman William T. Price, who advocated for the name change.
