Stoyan Alexandrov (Bulgarian: Стоян Александров; 14 June 1949 – 24 August 2020) was a Bulgarian economist who served as Minister of Finance under Prime Minister Lyuben Berov.
Biography
Alexandrov was born in Iliya, in the Kyustendil district of Bulgaria. He graduated from the Svishtov Academy of Economics (the Higher Institute of Finance and Economics in Svishtov), earning a Master of Science degree.
Career
From 1975 until 1993, Alexandrov worked as a lecturer at the University of National and World Economy. He served as Minister of Finance of Bulgaria from 2 January 1993 to 18 November 1994, during the government of Prime Minister Lyuben Berov.
In addition to his ministerial role, Alexandrov held several leadership positions in the Bulgarian financial sector, including:
- Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Director of the Central Cooperative Bank (CCB)
- Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Commercial Banks Association
- President of the Governing Council of the Association of Commerce Banks
He was the Bulgarian Socialist Party candidate for Mayor of Sofia in 2003, losing to Stefan Sofianski. From 2006 to 2020, he served as manager of the Turkish Dbank.
Death
Alexandrov died in Sofia on 24 August 2020, at the age of 71.
