Description
Stigmella protosema is a species of very small moth belonging to the family Nepticulidae, commonly known as “pigmy moths.” Members of this family are characterized by their minute size (wingspans typically 3–7 mm) and the leaf‑mining habit of their larvae. Specific morphological details for S. protosema have not been widely published; however, like other Stigmella species, it is expected to possess narrow, lanceolate forewings with subtle patterning and reduced hindwing venation.
Distribution
The species has been recorded from southern Africa, with confirmed occurrences in South Africa. Precise locality data are limited in the available literature.
