Steven Edwards (born 25 January 1985) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is most notable for his significant period with AFC Wimbledon, where he played an integral role in the club's ascent through the non-League pyramid following its reformation.
Career
Edwards began his senior career with AFC Wimbledon in 2004, joining the club shortly after its re-establishment. He quickly became a pivotal figure for the Dons, known for his energetic midfield performances, versatility, and ability to contribute goals.During his five years at AFC Wimbledon, Edwards was a key player in the club's rapid progression from the Combined Counties League to the Conference Premier (now National League). He made over 200 appearances in all competitions for the club, contributing to multiple promotions. His time at Wimbledon saw the team win the Combined Counties League Premier Division, the Isthmian League Division One South, and the Isthmian League Premier Division. His commitment and performances made him a popular figure among the club's supporters during this foundational period.
Edwards departed AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2009. Following his successful spell with the Dons, he continued his career in non-League football, playing for various clubs across the South East of England. These included:
