Steve Germain

Steve Germain (born February 26, 1968) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Quebec Nordiques.

Early Life and Junior Career

Born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, Germain developed his hockey skills within the Canadian junior hockey system. He played extensively in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), a prominent feeder league for professional hockey. During his time in the QMJHL, he competed for teams such as the Granby Bisons and the Victoriaville Tigres, where he was recognized for his physical presence and defensive reliability.

Professional Career

Germain's professional journey began when he was selected by his hometown team, the Quebec Nordiques, in the fourth round (70th overall) of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. After gaining experience in the minor leagues, primarily with the Halifax Citadels in the American Hockey League (AHL), he made his NHL debut with the Nordiques during the 1989–90 season. In his sole NHL season, Germain played 25 games, contributing 2 assists and accumulating 29 penalty minutes.

Following his period in the NHL, Germain continued his professional career in various minor leagues, including the AHL and the International Hockey League (IHL). He played for several teams such as the Cornwall Aces, Hershey Bears, and Fort Wayne Komets before concluding his professional playing career.
