History and Operations
Stellant Systems was formed in 1999 as a joint venture between the electron tube operations of Litton Industries (Litton Electron Devices division) and the microwave power tube division of Raytheon Company (which had acquired Hughes Aircraft's operations). The company combined significant expertise and manufacturing capabilities in high-power vacuum electron devices.Stellant's product portfolio included:
- Traveling-wave tubes (TWTs): Used in electronic warfare, radar, and satellite communications.
- Klystrons: High-power linear-beam vacuum tubes used as amplifiers for radar and particle accelerators.
- Magnetrons: Used primarily in radar systems and microwave ovens.
- Other vacuum electron devices: Including crossed-field amplifiers (CFAs) and related components.
The company served a global customer base, including government agencies, prime defense contractors, and commercial entities requiring high-performance microwave power generation.
