Stefan Naas (born 12 July 1973) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He has served as the mayor of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, Hesse, since 2021 and was previously a member of the Landtag of Hesse.
Early life and education
Naš was born in Lich, Hesse, West Germany. He completed his secondary education at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Lich and subsequently studied law at the University of Gießen, graduating with the First State Examination. He completed his legal traineeship (Referendariat) in 2005, obtaining the Second State Examination.
Political career
- Local politics: Naš joined the SPD in the early 1990s. He held various positions within the party’s local organization in the Lich district. From 2006 to 2011, he served as a member of the Lich municipal council.
- State parliament: In the 2009 Hessian state election, Naš was elected to the Landtag of Hesse, representing the Lich constituency. During his legislative term, he served on the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on Internal Affairs, focusing on topics such as judicial reform, public safety, and administrative law. He was re‑elected in 2013 and remained a member until 2018.
- Mayor of Bad Homburg: In the 2021 municipal election, Naš was elected mayor (Oberbürgermeister) of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, succeeding the previous mayor from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). His platform emphasized urban development, affordable housing, and strengthening social services. He was sworn in on 1 July 2021.
Personal life
Naš is married and has two children. He is known to be actively involved in local cultural and sports associations.
