Stavanger Stadion is a multi-purpose sports facility located in the Eiganes district of Stavanger, Norway. Opened in 1917, it served as the long-term home ground for the professional football club Viking FK until the club moved to its current venue, the SR-Bank Arena, in 2004.
Throughout its history as a football venue, the stadium hosted numerous Norwegian Premier League matches and Norwegian Cup ties. It was also utilized for international fixtures by the Norway national team on several occasions. The stadium's record attendance was set in 1959 during a match between Viking FK and Odd BK, which drew an estimated 18,892 spectators.
In addition to football, Stavanger Stadion has been a significant venue for track and field. Following the departure of Viking FK, the stadium was remodeled to better accommodate athletics. The facility features an all-weather running track and is the primary home for the athletics club IL Skjalg.
Current usage of the stadium includes local lower-division football matches, track and field competitions, and school sports activities. The stadium is owned and operated by the Stavanger Municipality. While its capacity for football has been significantly reduced from its historical peak due to the removal of temporary and older standing sections, it remains a central hub for amateur sports and athletics in the region.
