Stanley Switlik (1905 – 1994) was an American pioneer in parachute manufacturing and a proponent of sport parachuting. He founded the Switlik Parachute Company, which became a major supplier of parachutes to the United States military during World War II. Switlik’s innovations included improvements to parachute canopy design and deployment mechanisms that increased reliability and safety for both military and civilian use.
After the war, Switlik promoted recreational parachuting and helped establish the United States Parachute Association (USPA) in 1946. He also operated a parachute training school that offered instruction to both military personnel and civilian enthusiasts. Switlik’s contributions helped lay the foundation for modern skydiving practices and equipment standards.
