Standpoint was a British cultural and political magazine, originally published monthly, that debuted in June 2008. It ceased to be published regularly in 2020, with a final issue coming out in mid-2021.
Standpoint was based in London and was co-founded by Daniel Johnson, Miriam Gross, Jonathan Foreman, and Michael Mosbacher. Johnson served as its first editor until 2018, when he announced he was standing down. Subsequent editors included Michael Mosbacher (2018–2019) and Edward Lucas (2019–2020). The magazine was published by Social Affairs Unit Magazines Limited, a spinoff of the Social Affairs Unit, which itself was a charity associated with the Institute of Economic Affairs, a neoliberal economic think tank.
The magazine's stated mission was to defend Western civilization and its inherited values from the Judaeo-Christian, classical, medieval, Renaissance, and Enlightenment traditions. It described itself as a pro-American voice in Britain and covered politics, world affairs, religion, science, the arts, and the humanities. In 2019, editor Edward Lucas described the magazine as "a lively champion of unfashionable causes such as the virtues of western civilisation and transatlanticism," adding that it fought "culture wars vigorously" and mixed "polemic with mockery."
Standpoint was published ten times per year and was initially funded by British Marine chairman Alan Bekhor, followed by other donors, including financier Jeremy Hosking, who contributed £850,000 in 2019. The magazine was known for its "dialogue" interviews, in which two experts with differing viewpoints debated current affairs. Its ISSN was 1757-1111.
