Stabbing Westward is an American industrial rock band formed in 1985 in Macomb, Illinois. The band was founded by Christopher Hall, Mark Eliopulos, and Andy Kubiszewski, among others, and became active during the 1990s. Their music combines elements of industrial rock, alternative rock, and gothic rock, characterized by heavy guitar riffs, electronic textures, and introspective lyrics. The band signed with Columbia Records and released their major-label debut album, "Ungod," in 1994, followed by "Wither Blister Burn & Peel" in 1996, which achieved moderate commercial success.
Stabbing Westward released several albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including "Darkest Days" (1998) and "Stabbing Westward" (2001), before disbanding temporarily in 2002. The band reunited in 2016, resuming live performances and releasing new music, including the EP "Dead and Gone" (2018) and the album "Chasing Ghosts" (2022).
The band is associated with the industrial rock and alternative metal scenes of the 1990s and has toured with notable acts such as Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, and KMFDM. Their sound reflects influences from both electronic music and heavy rock, and they have been recognized for their contribution to the industrial rock genre during its mainstream peak.
