Staškov is a village and municipality in the Čadca District of the Žilina Region in northern Slovakia. It lies in the Kysuce region near the border with the Czech Republic and is situated at an elevation of approximately 456 m (1,495 ft) above sea level. The municipality covers an area of about 22.4 km² (8.6 sq mi).
Geography
Staškov is located in the foothills of the Javorníky mountain range, within the Upper Váh river basin. The coordinates are roughly 49°17′N 18°45′E. The surrounding landscape consists of mixed forests, agricultural land, and small streams that contribute to the local economy and recreation.
History
The first written record of Staškov dates to the mid‑17th century (1660s), when it was mentioned as part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Following the dissolution of Austro‑Hungarian rule after World I, the village became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia. After the peaceful split of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Staškov has been administered within the independent Slovak Republic.
