St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, commonly known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Portland, Oregon, United States. It serves as the mother church of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon.
The current cathedral, completed in 1926, is the third cathedral to serve the Archdiocese. The first was a wooden structure dedicated in 1852. The second, a larger brick building, was dedicated in 1885 but was later deemed inadequate for the growing Catholic population of Portland.
The present building is a notable example of Romanesque Revival architecture. It features a cruciform floor plan, stained glass windows, and a large pipe organ. The exterior is constructed of brick and adorned with towers and decorative elements characteristic of the Romanesque style.
St. Mary's Cathedral continues to function as a center of Catholic worship and community life in Portland, hosting regular masses, liturgical celebrations, and other events. It is a landmark in downtown Portland and a significant architectural and religious site in the region.
