Sobha Naidu

Sobha Naidu (1956 – 14 October 2020) was an acclaimed Indian Kuchipudi dancer and guru. She was a prominent disciple of the legendary Kuchipudi maestro Vempati Chinna Satyam and was considered one of the foremost exponents of the dance form.

Early Life and Training Born in 1956 in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, Sobha Naidu displayed an early aptitude for dance. She began her training under Pasumarthi Rathayya and later received extensive and rigorous training from the doyen of Kuchipudi, Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, at his Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai. She quickly distinguished herself as one of his most gifted students, mastering the intricate nuances and expressive qualities of the Kuchipudi style.

Career and Contributions Sobha Naidu's career spanned over five decades, during which she performed extensively across India and internationally. Her performances were characterized by grace, technical perfection, and an evocative portrayal of mythological characters. She was particularly celebrated for her powerful abhinaya (expression) and fluid nritta (pure dance).
