Smiths Gore was a prominent independent firm of chartered surveyors and property consultants in the United Kingdom, specializing in rural property, land management, and agricultural services. Founded in 1847, it grew to become one of the largest and most respected rural surveying firms in the UK before its merger with Savills plc in 2015.

History

Smiths Gore was established in 1847 by George William Gore. From its inception, the firm focused on providing professional advice and management services for landed estates, farms, and rural properties. Over more than a century and a half, Smiths Gore built a formidable reputation for expertise in areas such as:

In March 2015, Smiths Gore merged with Savills plc, a global real estate services provider. The merger was a significant event in the UK property sector, creating one of the largest rural property businesses in the country. Following the merger, Smiths Gore's operations were integrated into Savills' existing rural division, substantially expanding Savills' reach and expertise in land management, farming, and rural consultancy across the UK. The deal was valued at approximately £30 million.

Legacy

Although the Smiths Gore name was largely phased out following the merger, its legacy continues through Savills' strengthened rural property division. Many former Smiths Gore partners and employees became key figures within Savills, contributing their specialized knowledge and client relationships to the larger organization.
