Smile was an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1982. The group consisted of Jerry Gaskill (drums, vocals), formerly of Petra; Rick Florian (lead vocals); and Larry Worley (guitar, keyboards, vocals). They were signed to Frontline Records, a Christian music label.
Smile released two studio albums: Smile in 1984 and World of Color in 1986. Their music incorporated elements of hard rock, pop, and AOR (album-oriented rock), with lyrical themes often exploring faith, hope, and perseverance. While they were considered part of the Christian rock scene, their sound had crossover appeal.
The band toured extensively in support of their albums, playing clubs and festivals. However, they disbanded in the late 1980s. Following the breakup, Jerry Gaskill rejoined Petra, remaining with them until their retirement. Rick Florian pursued a solo career and later became a pastor. Information on Larry Worley's activities following Smile is scarce.
Although their time together was relatively brief, Smile contributed to the landscape of Christian rock in the mid-1980s and left behind a small but dedicated following. Their albums are now considered collector's items by fans of the genre.
