Slatina (also known as Izvorin) is a river in western Romania and a right tributary of the Apa Mare river. It discharges into the Apa Mare near the locality of Bărăteaz. The river has a total length of approximately 32 km (20 mi) and a drainage basin size of 113 km² (44 sq mi).
Geographic location and course
The Slatina flows through the counties of Arad and Timiș, in the western part of Romania. Along its course, it passes through the villages of Șagu, Mănăștur, and Bărăteaz. Its mouth is located at coordinates approximately 45°58′03″N 21°05′07″E.
Hydrological context
The Slatina is part of the larger hydrological system of the Bega river basin. Its progression follows the sequence: Slatina → Apa Mare → Bega Veche → Bega → Tisza → Danube → Black Sea.
Name
The name "Slatina" is of Slavic origin, commonly used in Romanian hydronymy to denote a saltwater spring or a marshy, saline area. The alternative name "Izvorin" derives from the Romanian word izvor, meaning "spring" or "source."
