Sitting Ducks is an American animated television series that aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2003. It is loosely based on the Sitting Ducks children's book, and the "Sitting Ducks" comics created by Rick Meyerowitz.
The series revolves around the unlikely friendship between Bill, a laid-back and well-meaning duck, and Aldo, an excitable and somewhat dim-witted alligator. They live in the town of Ducktown, where ducks and alligators coexist peacefully, despite the inherent predator-prey relationship that should exist between them. The humor of the show often stems from the absurdity of this peaceful coexistence and the various situations that Bill and Aldo find themselves in.
Other recurring characters include Ed, a pelican with a penchant for schemes; Cecil, a pig who runs a local diner; and Beverly, a sophisticated and ambitious duck.
Sitting Ducks is known for its distinctive animation style, characterized by its simple designs and bright colors. The show's humor is generally lighthearted and appeals to a broad audience. It often relies on slapstick, witty dialogue, and the contrast between Bill's calm demeanor and Aldo's impulsive nature.
The series was produced by Lost Machine, Inc. and Universal Cartoon Studios. It ran for two seasons, comprising 26 episodes. While it has not had any new episodes produced since 2003, Sitting Ducks has remained a fondly remembered part of Cartoon Network's early 2000s lineup and continues to be available on streaming services and for purchase on DVD.
