Sidney George Finney (May 2, 1929 – June 4, 2009) was a British-born Canadian professional ice hockey center. He is best known for his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Western Hockey League (WHL) during the 1950s.
Born in Banbury, England, Finney moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, as a child. He played junior hockey for the Regina Pats from 1946 to 1948 before transitioning to professional hockey. Finney played the majority of his career in the minor leagues, primarily with the Calgary Stampeders of the WHL, where he established himself as a consistent offensive contributor.
Finney played 59 games in the NHL for the Chicago Black Hawks over parts of three seasons between 1951 and 1954. During his time in the NHL, he recorded 10 goals and 7 assists for a total of 17 points. Following his stint in the NHL, he returned to the WHL, playing for the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Flyers. He concluded his professional career in 1961 after a season with the Portland Buckaroos and the Calgary Stampeders.
After retiring from professional sports, Finney remained in Calgary, Alberta, where he worked in the petroleum industry. He was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993 in recognition of his contributions to the sport as a British-born player. He died in Calgary in 2009.
