Shigatse Tingri Airport (IATA: DNG, ICAO: ZUDG) is a high-altitude civil airport located in Tingri County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. Situated at an elevation of approximately 4,300 meters (14,100 feet) above sea level, it is classified as a "high-plateau airport," a designation for airports located above 2,438 meters (8,000 feet).
Construction of the airport began in 2019 as part of a regional infrastructure development plan to improve accessibility to the western part of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The airport officially commenced operations on December 24, 2022. It is designed to facilitate tourism and economic development, particularly due to its proximity to the Mount Everest (Qomolangma) region, serving as a primary air gateway for visitors to the Qomolangma National Nature Preserve.
The airport features a single runway measuring approximately 4,500 meters in length and 45 meters in width, designed to accommodate regional jet aircraft such as the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737-700, which are capable of operating in the thin air conditions of high-altitude environments. The terminal building covers an area of approximately 5,000 square meters and is equipped to handle an estimated annual passenger throughput of 250,000 and 1,000 tons of cargo.
Shigatse Tingri Airport is the second civil airport in Shigatse Prefecture, following Shigatse Heping Airport. Its establishment is intended to strengthen the civil aviation network in the Himalayas and provide a more efficient transport link between the border regions of Tibet and major Chinese cities such as Chengdu and Lhasa.
