The term "Shatayu" is derived from Sanskrit, where śata (शत) means "hundred" and āyu (आयु) means "life" or "age," thus translating to "centenarian" or "hundred years of life." "Samman" (सम्मान) means "honor" or "respect."

Related Scheme
The Government of Madhya Pradesh also operates the Shatayu Samman Yojana, a scheme under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, which provides financial assistance (previously reported as ₹1,100) to senior citizens aged 100 years and above. In 2024, 70 senior citizens were reportedly honored with this award on the International Day of Older Persons.
