Shady Cove is a city in Jackson County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is situated along the Rogue River in the Rogue Valley region, approximately 18 miles (29 km) north of Medford. The city was incorporated in 1971 and, as of the 2020 United States Census, had a population of 2,331 residents.

Shady Cove lies at latitude 42.985° N and longitude −122.743° W, at an elevation of roughly 1,300 feet (400 m) above sea level. The city covers a total area of 2.24 square miles (5.80 km²), of which 2.22 square miles (5.75 km²) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km²) is water, primarily the Rogue River that borders the city’s southern edge.

History
The area that became Shady Cove was originally inhabited by the Takelma people. European‑American settlement began in the mid‑19th century, driven largely by the Oregon Trail migration and subsequent gold‑rush activity along the Rogue River. The community developed around timber and agricultural activities. In the early 20th century, the construction of a bridge across the Rogue River facilitated further growth. The city’s name derives from a “shady cove” along the riverbank that early settlers used as a resting place.
