Sergey Dronov (Russian: Сергей Дронов; born 1966) is a Russian military officer who has served as the commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) since August 2021. He holds the rank of colonel general.
Early life and education
Dronov was born in 1966 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He graduated from the Gagarin Air Force Academy, one of Russia’s principal institutions for training senior air‑force personnel.
Military career
After completing his education, Dronov held a series of command and staff positions within the Russian Air Force. Prior to his appointment as commander of the Aerospace Forces, he served as the commander of the 4th Air and Air Defence Forces Army, which is responsible for the air defence of the north‑western strategic direction of the Russian Federation.
