Sergei Olshansky

Sergei Olshansky (born June 2, 1948) is a former Soviet and Russian professional footballer who played as a defender. Recognized for his strong defensive attributes and leadership qualities, he spent the majority of his club career with Spartak Moscow and was also a key member of the Soviet Union national team, with whom he earned an Olympic bronze medal.

Early Life and Club Career Born in Moscow, Soviet Union, Olshansky began his football journey within the youth systems of his native city. He commenced his senior professional career with CSKA Moscow in 1966, playing for the club until 1969 and contributing to their Soviet Top League championship victory in 1969.

In 1970, Olshansky made a significant move to CSKA's city rivals, Spartak Moscow, where he would become a pivotal figure in their defense. During his initial spell with Spartak from 1970 to 1975, he helped the club secure the Soviet Cup in 1971. Following a brief period at Lokomotiv Moscow in 1976, he returned to Spartak in 1977. His second tenure with Spartak proved highly successful, culminating in another Soviet Top League title in 1979, a season during which he also served as the team's captain. Olshansky concluded his professional playing career in 1979.

International Career Olshansky made his debut for the Soviet Union national team in 1972. He accumulated 19 caps for his country between 1972 and 1973. A highlight of his international career was his participation in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where the Soviet squad earned a bronze medal in the football tournament.
