Sedley Andrus was an American numismatist and public official who briefly served as the Acting Director of the United States Mint in 1947.
Andrus's tenure as Acting Director was a transitional period between the permanent appointment of Nellie Tayloe Ross and her successor, Leland Howard. Appointed by President Harry S. Truman, he oversaw the operations of the U.S. Mint, which is responsible for producing coinage for the United States, as well as controlling the movement of bullion. His role, while temporary, placed him at the helm of a critical federal agency involved in the nation's monetary system.
Prior to and following his role as Acting Director, Andrus was recognized within the numismatic community, indicating an expertise and interest in coinage and currency. Details about his early life and career are less extensively documented than his period of service with the U.S. Mint.
