Scartella springeri is a species of marine ray‑finned fish belonging to the family Blenniidae, commonly known as combtooth blennies. It was first formally described by the ichthyologist J. L. B. Smith in 1960.

Distribution and Habitat
Scartella springeri is known from the western Indian Ocean. Recorded occurrences include the islands of Réunion and Mauritius, with possible reports from nearby coastal regions such as Madagascar. The species inhabits shallow, coastal marine environments, typically associating with rocky substrates, coral rubble, and reef crevices at depths ranging from the surface down to approximately 10 m.
Morphology
The species reaches a maximum standard length of roughly 5 cm (2 in). Like other members of the genus, it possesses a slender body, a continuous dorsal fin, and the characteristic comb‑like teeth used for grazing on algae and small invertebrates. Detailed meristic and coloration data are limited in the primary literature.
Ecology
Scartella springeri is primarily algivorous, feeding on microalgae and biofilm that grow on hard surfaces. It is a benthic species, often observed perched on rocks or within the interstices of coral structures. Reproductive habits are presumed to be similar to other Scartella species, involving demersal eggs deposited on substrate and guarded by the male, although specific studies on S. springeri are lacking.
Conservation Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has not assessed Scartella springeri; consequently, its official conservation status is listed as “Not Evaluated.” The limited distribution and the relatively small geographic range may render the species susceptible to habitat degradation, but current population trends are unknown.
Etymology
The specific epithet springeri honors the American ichthyologist Victor G. Springer, recognized for his contributions to the systematics of blennies and other marine fishes.
