Sawa Station (Nagano)

Sawa Station (Japanese: 沢駅, Sawa-eki) is a railway station on the Iida Line in the town of Minowa, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central).

Location
The station is situated at 500 Nakaminawa, Minowa-machi, Kamiina-gun, Nagano 399‑4601, Japan. Its geographic coordinates are 35°56′10″N 137°59′07″E, at an elevation of approximately 702 m.

Lines and Services
Sawa Station is served by the Iida Line and lies 189.7 km from the line’s origin at Toyohashi Station. Only local services stop at the station.

Station Layout
The facility consists of a single ground‑level side platform serving one bi‑directional track. There is no station building; a simple shelter is provided on the platform. The station is unattended.

History

  • Opened: 16 March 1923.
  • With the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, control of the station transferred to JR Central.
  • The present shelter was completed in 1996 (citation needed).

Passenger Usage
In fiscal year 2016, an average of 344 boarding passengers used the station daily.

Surrounding Area
The station is located near Minowa Kita Elementary School and serves the local residential community of Minowa.
