Sascha Gorodnitzki

Sascha Gorodnitzki (1900 – June 30, 1986) was a Russian‑born American pianist and pedagogue. He emigrated to the United States in the early 20th century and pursued his musical education at the Institute of Musical Art (later the Juilliard School) in New York City, where he studied under the celebrated Russian pianist Josef Lhévinne. After completing his studies, Gorodnitzki embarked on a career as a concert pianist, giving recitals throughout the United States and occasionally abroad.

In addition to his performance activities, Gorodnitzki was a longtime faculty member at the Juilliard School, where he taught piano from the 1930s until his retirement in the early 1970s. He was recognized for his rigorous technical instruction and emphasis on musical expression. Among his students were several pianists who went on to achieve professional careers, although specific names are not exhaustively documented in publicly available sources.

Gorodnitzki contributed to American piano pedagogy through master classes, workshops, and published articles on piano technique. He remained active in the musical community until his death in 1986, after which he was remembered for both his artistry as a performer and his influence as an educator.
