Ioannides made her professional conducting debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 2002. She served as Assistant Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony for the 2005–2006 season and subsequently held music director positions with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra (2011–2018) and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra (2013–2020). In 2017, she was appointed Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony, becoming one of the few women to hold the chief artistic position of a major American orchestra. Under her direction, the Grand Rapids Symphony has expanded its community outreach, premiered new works, and increased its recording output.
