Santiago Aragón Martínez (born 14 March 1968) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a forward or attacking midfielder. He is known for his career in La Liga, most notably with Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza, and later worked in coaching and youth development.
Early life
Aragón was born in Soria, Castile and León, Spain.
Club career
- Real Madrid Castilla – He began his senior career with Real Madrid’s reserve team, Castilla, where he debuted in the 1986–87 season.
- Real Madrid – Aragón was promoted to the first team in 1987. He made his La Liga debut on 13 September 1988 and made a total of 90 league appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals. During his time with Real Madrid he was part of squads that won the 1988–89 La Liga title and the 1992–93 Copa del Rey.
- Rayo Vallecano (loan) – In the 1990–91 season he spent a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano, contributing 7 goals in 21 league matches.
- Real Zaragoza – Aragón transferred to Real Zaragoza in 1995. He played 84 league matches and scored 12 goals for the club. While at Zaragoza, the team won the 1995–96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, with Aragón featuring in the competition.
- Later years – After leaving Zaragoza, he had short stints with clubs such as Alavés and other lower‑division sides before retiring from professional play in 2002.
International career
Aragón did not earn senior caps for the Spain national team. He represented Spain at youth levels, including the under‑21 side.
Post‑retirement
Following his playing career, Aragón moved into coaching and football administration. He served as a youth coach within Real Madrid’s academy system and later held positions related to player development.
