Etymology/Origin The name of the station, "Sangil-dong," is derived directly from the administrative neighborhood (dong) in which it is located. In Korean, "Sangil-dong" (상일동) is composed of "Sangil" (상일), which can be interpreted as "upper day" or "upper sun," possibly referring to a historical or geographical characteristic of the area, and "dong" (동), a common suffix for an administrative neighborhood or district in Korea.
