San Antonio Pajonal lies in the western region of El Salvador, approximately 60 kilometres west of the departmental capital, Santa Ana. The local economy is predominantly based on agriculture, with coffee, maize, and beans being the principal crops. The municipality is characterized by a mountainous terrain that forms part of the Central Mountain Range (Cordillera Central) and experiences a temperate climate with a distinct wet season from May to October.

Etymology/Origin
The name “San Antonio” honors Saint Anthony of Padua, a widely venerated Catholic saint. “Pajonal” derives from the Spanish word pajonal, meaning “grassland” or “area covered with straw,” reflecting the vegetation that historically dominated the region’s landscape.
