Samuel E. Ebbesen is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who served in various high-level command and staff positions over a military career spanning more than 30 years.
Born in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Ebbesen attended the City College of New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and received his commission through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) in 1961. He later obtained a Master of Public Administration from American University and completed senior military education at the United States Army War College.
Ebbesen’s military service included tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Throughout his career, he held several significant leadership roles, including:
- Commanding General of the 6th Infantry Division (Light) and U.S. Army Garrison, Alaska.
- Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Personnel Policy.
- Deputy Commander in Chief of the United States Atlantic Command (USACOM).
In 1992, as a major general, Ebbesen was appointed by the Department of Defense to lead the military’s disaster relief efforts in Florida following Hurricane Andrew. He retired from active duty in 1997.
Following his military career, Ebbesen entered the private sector. He served as the president and chief executive officer of Innovative Communication Corporation (ICC), a telecommunications company based in the United States Virgin Islands. He has also been involved in various civic and educational organizations, serving on the Board of Trustees for the University of the Virgin Islands and the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross.
His military decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal.
