Sam Moll

Samuel Moll (born May 2, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. A left-handed relief pitcher, he has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, and Toronto Blue Jays.

Early Life and College Career: Moll was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Jupiter Community High School in Jupiter, Florida. After high school, he played college baseball at the University of Memphis.

Professional Career:

  • Colorado Rockies (2013-2016): Moll was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. He spent several seasons in the Rockies' minor league system, primarily as a relief pitcher, before being traded.
  • San Francisco Giants (2017): On July 27, 2017, the Rockies traded Moll to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for a player to be named later. He made his MLB debut with the Giants on July 29, 2017. He pitched in 11 games for the Giants that season.
  • Oakland Athletics (2018, 2021-2022): Moll was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics on October 25, 2017. He spent time in their minor league system and made limited MLB appearances in 2018. After being released and re-signing minor league deals with various organizations, he returned to the Athletics in 2021 and became a more prominent part of their bullpen, continuing into the 2022 season.
  • Detroit Tigers (2022): On August 2, 2022, Moll was traded by the Athletics to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league pitcher JD Ortiz. He finished the 2022 season with the Tigers.
  • Cincinnati Reds (2023): On November 10, 2022, Moll was traded by the Tigers to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league pitcher Christian Lopez. He was a regular member of the Reds' bullpen for the first half of the 2023 season.
  • Toronto Blue Jays (2023): On July 31, 2023, Moll was traded by the Reds to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league pitcher Jimmy Robbins. He finished the 2023 season with the Blue Jays.

Moll is primarily known for his role as a left-handed specialist out of the bullpen, often utilized to face left-handed batters in high-leverage situations due to his pitching repertoire.
