Early Life
Salvatore Bellomo was born on 18 June 1959 in Liège, Belgium. He was of Italian descent, the son of Italian immigrants, and grew up in a bilingual environment. His interest in professional wrestling began in his teenage years, inspired by televised wrestling programs popular in Europe.
Professional Wrestling Career
Bellomo debuted in professional wrestling in 1978, initially competing in local Belgian and French promotions. By the early 1980s, he had expanded his career to the United Kingdom, where he wrestled for Joint Promotions and later for the television program World of Sport. His high-flying style and charismatic presence earned him a reputation as a prominent “European” heel (villain) character.
In 1985, Bellomo signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). He made his first televised appearance at the 1985 Wrestling Classic tournament, where he faced and was defeated by fellow newcomer Paul Orndorff. During his tenure with the WWF (1985–1989), Bellomo worked primarily as an enhancement talent, appearing on syndicated shows such as WWF Superstars of Wrestling and WWF Wrestling Challenge. He also wrestled at house shows across North America, often teaming with fellow “European” wrestlers such as Kwan Chang.
After leaving the WWF, Bellomo returned to the European circuit, performing for promotions such as the Catch Wrestling Association (CWA) in Germany and the International Wrestling Association (IWA) in Italy. He continued to tour internationally throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, making occasional appearances in United States independent promotions.
Later Life and Death
In later years, Belloma remained involved in wrestling as a trainer, mentoring younger performers in Belgium and Italy. He also made guest appearances at wrestling conventions and fan events. Salvatore Bellomo passed away on 10 January 2023, at the age of 63, after a brief illness.
Legacy
Bellomo is remembered for his role in bringing a European wrestling style to North American audiences during the 1980s WWF expansion. While never a headline star, his contributions as an early international competitor helped pave the way for future European wrestlers in mainstream American promotions.
