Salomon Korn (born 17 December 1956) is a German rabbi, author, and communal leader. He is notable for having served as the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland) from 2006 to 2010, representing the interests of the Jewish community at the national level.
Early life and education
Korn was born in Cologne, West Germany. He pursued higher education in theology and Jewish studies, obtaining a doctorate in philosophy (Ph.D.) with a focus on Jewish thought and inter‑religious dialogue.
Rabbinical career
Following his academic training, Korn was ordained as a rabbi and subsequently assumed a position as the rabbi of the Jewish community in Düsseldorf. In this role he oversaw religious services, educational programs, and community outreach.
Leadership in the Central Council of Jews in Germany
In 2006, Korn was elected president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, the umbrella organization representing German Jewish communities. During his tenure, he advocated for Holocaust remembrance, combated anti‑Semitement, and promoted dialogue with other religious and civic groups. He also worked on issues related to restitution of property seized during the Nazi era and the integration of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
Publications and scholarship
Korn has authored several books and articles on Jewish theology, ethics, and the history of Jews in Germany. His works frequently address contemporary challenges facing the Jewish community and explore the relationship between Judaism and broader German society.
