Salacak is a neighbourhood (mahalle) in the municipality and district of Üsküdar, Istanbul Province, Turkey, located on the Asian shore of the Bosporus. As of 2022, its population is 9,522.
Location and Geography: Salacak lies along the Bosporus coastline, to the south of the historic center of Üsküdar, extending from Üsküdar toward Harem. It is situated on the Asian side of Istanbul.
Etymology: The Turkish word salacak literally means "bench for washing a corpse." However, the name is also reported to derive from sala (meaning "village" in an unspecified language) combined with the Turkish diminutive suffix -cık, thus meaning "small village."
Landmarks: The neighborhood's most famous landmark is the Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi), which is located just offshore from Salacak in the Bosporus Strait. The area is known for its scenic waterfront promenade, teahouses, and views of the historic peninsula of Istanbul.
Transportation: The Marmaray project (a railway tunnel connecting the European and Asian sides of Istanbul) included construction work in the Salacak area.
