Saint-Denis-les-Ponts (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ dəni le pɔ̃]) is a former commune in the Eure-et-Loir department in the Centre-Val de Loire region of northern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune of Saint-Denis-Lanneray.
Geography and Administration The commune covered an area of 13.8 km² (5.3 sq mi) and was situated at an average elevation of 124 meters (407 ft) above sea level. It was part of the arrondissement of Châteaudun and the canton of Châteaudun. Its postal code is 28200.
Population As of 2019, Saint-Denis-les-Ponts had a population of 1,669 inhabitants, giving a population density of approximately 121 inhabitants per km². The residents are referred to as Lespontois. The population grew from 700 in 1793 to a peak of 1,825 in 2008 before declining slightly to 1,669 in 2019.
History Saint-Denis-les-Ponts existed as an independent commune until 31 July 2018, when a prefectural decree (arrêté préfectoral) was issued merging it with the neighboring commune of Lanneray. The merger took effect on 1 January 2019, forming the new commune of Saint-Denis-Lanneray.
Hydrology From 1977 to 1994, a hydrological station operated on the Yerre river at Saint-Denis-les-Ponts. During this 18-year period, the mean annual flow (module) was 1.04 m³/s (1,040 liters per second). The highest instantaneous water level recorded was 1.90 meters on 9 April 1983.
