Ordered by Orient Line, SS Orcades was built by Vickers Ltd. at their shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, England. She was launched on December 19, 1921, and completed in June 1922. Her maiden voyage commenced on October 14, 1922, from London to Australia. She was the first of two sister ships, the second being SS Otranto.Specifications
