Rush Valley is a geographic valley and an incorporated town located in Tooele County, Utah, United States.
Overview
The valley lies in the western part of the state, east of the Oquirrh Mountains and north of Utah Lake. It extends roughly 20 kilometers (12 mi) in a north‑south direction and is part of the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The town of Rush Valley, incorporated in 1977, occupies the central portion of the valley and had a population of 459 according to the 2020 U.S. Census. The community is primarily residential, with a local economy based on agriculture, livestock grazing, and commuter employment in nearby urban centers such as Tooele and Salt Lake City.
Etymology/Origin
The name “Rush Valley” is commonly understood to refer to the presence of rush plants (family Juncaceae) that were abundant in the area’s wetland margins during early settlement. Precise documentary evidence for the naming is not available, and the exact origin remains unverified.
