Roxbury is a town located in the southeastern part of Delaware County in the state of New York, United States. It lies within the Catskill Mountains region, approximately 30 miles (48 km) southwest of the city of Oneonta and about 70 miles (113 km) northwest of New York City. The town is bordered to the north by the towns of Stamford and Harpersfield, to the east by the town of Margaretville, to the south by the town of Andes, and to the west by the towns of Delhi and Walton.

History
Roxbury was first settled in the early 19th century, with the first permanent European‑American inhabitants arriving around 1807. The town was officially organized in 1829, having been formed from portions of the neighboring towns of Harpersfield and Delhi. The name “Roxbury” is believed to have been transferred from Roxbury, Massachusetts, reflecting a common practice of early settlers naming new communities after familiar locales from the eastern seaboard.
The early economy was based primarily on subsistence agriculture, timber extraction, and small‑scale mining. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the town’s population fluctuated in response to broader regional economic trends, including the rise and decline of the Catskill tanning industry.

Roxbury operates under the town board form of government, consisting of a town supervisor and four council members elected at large. New York State Route 30 (NY‑30) traverses the eastern part of Roxbury, connecting the town with the villages of Margaretville to the north and Andes to the south. The town is near the western boundary of the Catskill Park, a protected area managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The Roxbury Presbyterian Church, constructed in 1862 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a notable historic structure within the town.
