History
The history of Rottneros as an estate dates back to the 17th century, with the current manor house largely established in the 18th century. However, the creation of Rottneros Park as a public attraction and sculpture garden is attributed to Svante Påhlson (1882–1959), a local industrialist and timber merchant.
During the 1950s, Påhlson embarked on an ambitious project to transform the manor grounds into a unique park that combined art, nature, and cultural references. His vision was to create a "living museum" where visitors could experience art in a natural setting. He acquired numerous sculptures by prominent Swedish and international artists, strategically placing them throughout the park. Upon his death, the park was bequeathed to a foundation, ensuring its continued operation and development.
